Elena Hanson is the Founder of Hanson Crossborder Tax Inc, a private international tax advisory company which she founded in 2012.
Elena assists US, Canadian and international private clients, businesses and the institutions that service them on cross-border taxation issues, investment structuring, and trust and estate planning. She works with Canadian and non-US resident clients and entities on structuring US inbound investments to minimize federal and state income tax exposure. She advises US clients on tax aspects of foreign investments, including anti-deferral rules, entity classification issues and reporting requirements for foreign entities and trusts. Her work in that area also encompasses Canadian and US pre-immigration, departure taxation rules, and expatriation planning, cross-border compensation and employment tax issues and corporate structuring for foreign companies setting up US or Canadian operations. She has extensive experience in crossborder estate and trust tax planning and compliance and crossborder separation and divorces.
Prior to founding her company, Elena spent 12 years working for several of the Big Four in Canada and overseas focusing mostly on Canada and US cross-border tax advisory and compliance for private clients, corporate assignees/mobile executives, cross-border estates and trusts and US inbound and outbound entities. She started her professional career in tax with the IRS, Small Business and Self-Employment Division.
Elena speaks extensively before professional groups including accountants, investment advisors and insurance brokers. She frequently publishes articles in national newspapers and professional journals for accountants and lawyers on various aspects of cross-border taxation planning. She is also currently doing a podcast series with a fellow wealth management advisor, called Two Way Traffic, which is about cross-border tax and financial issues.
She is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant with the State of Illinois, holds a Master’s in Taxation from Golden Gate University, California, USA, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – Accounting from Marian University, Wisconsin, USA. She also finished all three levels of the Canadian Tax In-depth through the Canadian Tax Foundation.

Trinity has more than 11 years of US and Canadian tax experience. She started her professional tax career with the largest real estate company in Canada, and later joined one of the top seven accounting firms to provide Canada and US crossborder tax services. Trinity has a deep working knowledge of crossborder tax in a wide variety of industries, including real estate, manufacturing, and construction. Her experience includes crossborder Expatriation and Departure tax, US Section 951A GILTI and 965 Transition Tax reporting, Canadian Foreign Affiliates reporting, Gift tax, and tax planning and compliance for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and estates.

Sharon has almost 20 years of experience providing U.S. and Canadian income tax compliance and consulting services to individuals, trusts/estates and corporations. Sharon focuses on individual taxes, payroll and equity compensation related to international employment related assignments. She also has in-depth knowledge in tax planning and compliance for US citizens residing in Canada, U.S. FIRPTA, and Sec 116 withholding obligations, IRS and CRA voluntary disclosures, taxpayer relief, and other amnesty programs.

Ming has over 8 years of experience in crossborder taxation and has served individual and corporate clients in Canadian as well as US Federal and State tax planning and compliance, CRA and IRS resolution of notices, US Streamlined Foreign Offshore procedures, and US FinCEN and FATCA obligations. Ming also has extensive international tax experience in jurisdictions such as Hong Kong, Australia, and China. Prior to Ming’s focus on international and US-Canada crossborder taxation, Ming spent 8 years as a financial and tax analyst working in primarily the manufacturing industry. Ming’s client-centric approach, management, and organizational skills ensure filing obligations are met timely and accurately.

Daisy’s experience spans over 12 years. She has assisted clients with both Canadian and US individual and corporate tax compliance, including US Streamlined Filing compliance, application of the Canada-US tax treaty, US FinCEN and FATCA compliance, and tax resolution with the IRS and CRA. Prior to joining the Company, Daisy spent over 10 years at a multi-disciplinary immigration and accounting firm where she assisted clients, mostly newcomers and nonresidents of Canada, with both full-cycle accounting and Canadian tax compliance. She has also assisted in reporting for Canadian business set-up and liquidations.

With over 20 years of accounting experience working for local CA firms Ruta has wide knowledge and accounting experience performing Review and Notice to Reader engagements, personal and corporate tax compliance as well as trust and estate tax filings. Her client work has encompassed work in a wide spectrum of industries including private investment firms, real estate, consulting, personal service and construction. Her additional experience includes owner/manager remuneration, payroll and HST/GST tax compliance.

He has 3 years’ experience in full-cycle accounting and Canadian tax compliance. He is currently working towards his US CPA designation. Grace is an administrator at Hanson Crossborder Tax’s Oakville office. She has 25 years experience in administrative and customer service providing comprehensive support for executive-level staff, key players and team.
Before joining HCBT in 2020, Grace worked as a Partner Assistant in one of the Big Four in downtown Toronto, supporting Partners in the National and Global roles, maximizing the value of their time by proactively identifying and taking accountability for all administrative matters. Grace is the ultimate super-juggler who has the ability to throw a to-do list up in the air and catch it in a different order depending on the situation at hand. Previously, she worked as the Marketing Coordinator at ING Funds, supporting the Marketing, Sales and Product Team.
